Applications Engineer - Metrology and Automation
Role Description
Tasks
The Applications Engineer will take a leading role in a range of technical metrology and automation projects. This will include client facing work at customer sites across the UK.
The nature of the work will include the following aspects:
IONA installation and application support – installing and commissioning new IONA systems, supporting clients with initial applications. This may include programming industrial robots for which prior experience will be a distinct advantage.
IONA related funded R+D and Customer projects work. – Development of customer led applications providing an interface between customer requirements and Insphere development resources. Customer project management and leadership, as well as engineering input.
The work will include using Laser Trackers for a range of tasks from conventional manufacturing laser tracker measurements through to more specialist robot calibration. (Experience with laser trackers a distinct advantage, though training and support will be provided prior to client-facing work).
The work will be conducted in a range of advance manufacturing environments including metrology laboratories and manufacturing facilities in the Aerospace and Automotive sectors.
Location: Bristol based with regular national travel expected.
Key Accountabilities
- Liaison and reporting directly with customers explaining results and ensuring 100% customer satisfaction.
- Lead activities from planning to execution.
- Responsible for measurement data analysis to provide customers with the required actionable information.
Candidate Profile
This role requires a highly motivated, proactive individual with excellent problem-solving skills. A successful candidate will need to manage their time and ensure consistent delivery without micro-management from others.
A significant element of the role will be client facing and the candidate will be expected to lead technical meetings and discussions with clients.
The ideal candidate will already have appropriate experience and can start delivery from day one.
Qualifications
A degree or HND/HNC in mechanical or manufacturing engineering, although candidates with lower academic qualifications combined with at least 3 years or relevant experience using metrology systems will also be considered. A full driving license will be essential.
British Nationality is not essential but may be preferred as we work regularly with customers in defence sector where site access is restricted.
Skills and Experience
Hands on expertise and significant experience with the following is essential:
- Portable metrology such as Laser Trackers
- Working with CAD and 3D coordinate systems
- IT literacy and presentation skills
Other desirable skills include:
- Familiar with programming Industrial Robots such as KUKA, ABB, Fanuc
- Use of Photogrammetry Systems
- Knowledge of Repeatability and Reproducibility trials
Job Type: Full-time
Salary: £40,000.00-£45,000.00 per year
