Following INSPHERE’s partnership with The University of Sheffield AMRC Factory 2050 to lead project ACCUFAS (see earlier post July 2023), the AMRC released their findings in November 2024.

Challenge: to enable a more accurate and flexible robotic milling system by using data from an in-process metrology system to predict the positional error of a robot during a milling process.
Background: Project ACCUFAS was set up to address the need for better metrology to drive forward manufacturing and devised in joint partnership between the University of Sheffield AMRC and INSPHERE Ltd.
INSPHERE’s focus was to improve the performance of in-process metrology system IONA, a scalable network of sensors providing metrology-grade positional data to automated manufacturing processes. The AMRC team aimed to use data from IONA and machine learning to predict the positional error of a serial-arm robot during a milling process.
